So last night I decided that mashed potatoes just weren't going to cut it! I needed something cheesy and just mouth watering...potatoes au gratin is what I needed. lol This recipe is so simple and easy and guaranteed to be loved by everyone haha
Serves 6
Cook Time: 1 hour and 30 min
Active Time: 30 min
Total time 2 hours or so...
Ingredients:
5 russet potatoes sliced thin
1/2 of yellow onion sliced thin
3 tbsp butter
3 tbsp flour
2 cups milk
3/4 cup parmesan cheese
3/4 cup cheddar cheese
Directions:
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
After slicing potatoes place them in a greased or non-stick baking dish (I used a pie dish) and layer half the potatoes on the bottom. Then take the onions and layer them on top. Then add the rest of the potatoes on top lightly season with salt and pepper.
Next, melt butter with flour and salt in a sauce pan. Cook for about 1 min with constantly stirring. Then add the milk bring to a boil and the reduce heat to low-medium and add the cheese. Keep stirring and cook until melted.
Pour cheese sauce over potato dish and cover with foil.
Place in oven for 1 hour and 30 minutes. The last 15-20 minutes remove the foil from the pan to let the potatoes get nice and brown on top.
Remove from oven, set aside for 5 min and then serve! Enjoy!
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do! I love pairing these potatoes with tri-tip and sautéed spinach. Please comment and/or share!
